Offensive Coordinator Matt Nagy First Training Camp Since Returning To Chiefs

This last offseason the Chiefs parted with Frank Clark (Defensive End), JuJu Smith-Schuster (Wide Receiver), Mecole Hardman (Wide Receiver), and a few more starters. Not only did Chiefs part with these players, Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy also signed with the Washington Commanders shortly after the Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The start of the 2023 training camp sessions marks the first camp back for the newly promoted Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Matt Nagy. Nagy had originally joined the organization in 2013 when he joined the club with Head Coach Andy Reid from the Philadelphia Eagles. He served as the Chiefs Quarterbacks coach 2013-2015, to the Co-Offensive Coordinator with Brad Childress the 2016-2017 season before taking a Head Coach position with the Chicago Bears in 2018. He rejoined the Chiefs organization as the Senior Offensive Assistant/Quarterbacks Coach before being promoted to the Offensive Coordinator earlier this year.

When asked about how he feels about being back, Nagy seemed pretty excited. “The fans are great, the people are great, the players come in with a great mindset. They also know what they’re about to get into with Coach Reid’s camp.” Nagy stated, “We kind of gave them a preempt in OTAs but they’re handling it well. You have some mistakes here and there, but I think the biggest thing is the effort there, and it is.”

Though the signing of Eric Bieniemy to the Washington Commanders was a shock for many Chiefs fans; Matt Nagy seems to be readjusting just fine. He’s someone who has coached alongside Head Coach Andy Reid for years, across different organizations, and within his first season the Chiefs gained another Super Bowl win. Let’s run it back #ChiefsKingdom.
